Migration from SharePoint On-Premise to SharePoint Online for a National Property Trust Company
The client had significant customizations in their SharePoint 2010 environment. They were using Custom/Visual Web Parts and Event Receivers, which they wanted to replace with the new SharePoint Online tools. Since Microsoft no longer supports SharePoint Server 2010, this client needed to make a move to a newer platform that was supported well.
Migrating to a new platform was daunting, but they wanted to do it in an organized manner with no downtime issues. They had very complex customizations created in Web Parts, Event Receiver, and Site Structure that support critical business processes, which necessitated a well-thought-out conversion plan.
The Think AI SharePoint team decided to utilize ShareGate migration tool as it provides a user-friendly UI as well scheduled migrations and good migration speed, ShareGate also handled O365 throttling effectively plus any incremental migrations, which was key for this successful migration.
The second aspect of the Migration was the SharePoint complex customizations. Think AI decided to utilize the following features for SharePoint online in order to maintain the client’s existing customizations:
- SPFx Web Parts for SharePoint 2010 Visual Web Parts
- Power Automate flows for SharePoint 2010 event receivers
The client is a leading diversified finance company with a core focus on the real estate and infrastructure sectors. They engage in originating, acquiring, financing and managing commercial mortgage loans as well as other commercial real estate debt and equity investments.
